The experience
Trek Overview
Everything you need to know before stepping into the mountains.
The Chandrashila Tungnath Alpine Trek is the longer and more immersive counterpart to our compact Deoriatal itinerary. Instead of returning to the same village stay after each walk, this six-day programme crosses the mountain landscape in full alpine style: Sari to Deoriatal, onward through Rohini Bugyal to Syalmi, then to Baniya Kund before the final Tungnath and Chandrashila day.
Sari Village remains the expedition base. The team meets there, completes equipment and route checks, and returns there after the summit stage. Between those two Sari nights, trekkers live on the trail at successive camps. This creates time for quieter forest sections, changing mountain perspectives and the golden-hour atmosphere that disappears on rushed day trips.
The route is designed for real trekkers who value the journey as much as the summit. Consecutive walking days, basic camps, cold nights, uneven terrain and a 13 km summit stage make it a moderate trek requiring preparation. It is not positioned as a first-time sightseeing package, although fit newcomers with disciplined training may be considered after a readiness discussion.
Autumn often brings sharper visibility, while colder departures can bring snow to the upper trail and camps. Neither snow nor clear mountain views can be guaranteed. The trek leader may alter a camp, turnaround point or summit attempt because of snowfall, wind, forest restrictions, trail condition or group safety.
