The experience
Trek Overview
Everything you need to know before stepping into the mountains.
The Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek is a six-day, five-night journey from Rishikesh into the high meadows of Chamoli. Your route begins with the mountain drive to Waan Village, then climbs through the forest camp of Gehroli Patal before opening onto Bedni Bugyal and the rolling grasslands of Ali Bugyal.
The character of the trek changes every day. Waan brings village life and the cultural landscape of the upper Garhwal Himalaya. The ascent to Gehroli Patal moves through dense oak and rhododendron forest, while the higher trail reveals wide meadow ridges and unobstructed mountain horizons. On clear days, Trishul and Nanda Ghunti dominate the skyline.
This is a moderate trek, not a casual meadow walk. The itinerary includes sustained ascents, uneven forest paths, repeated trekking days and nights at altitude. The six-day plan gives the group time to move steadily, experience sunrise near Ali Bugyal and descend through Gehroli Patal without compressing the route into a rushed weekend.
The published programme uses authorised overnight locations and may be adjusted when forest rules, meadow-conservation measures, weather, trail condition or local guidance require it. Spring and early summer can bring green slopes and rhododendron colour, while post-monsoon autumn often offers clearer mountain views. Snow, sunrise and visibility are natural conditions and cannot be guaranteed for a particular departure.
